A real miracle

I don't use my journal and that's sad but I don't really have anything exciting to say and I know I could write but I end up with writer's block so I think I'll use my journal for writing/creative stuff and a type of devotional/response to sermons then I'll have a post everyday or hope to at least.
Went to the living water website and listened to the sermon I had told S. I would but hadn't really gotten around to it, I'm a terrrible procrastinator, and S is a niggler(nagger). We had gone to this church last saturday and it was nice to have a church again. Haven't found one we all liked since Allentown and Airport Road. So that's like 9 or so years without church. Anyway this sermon came before so I'll post the one about saturday afterwards.
The pastor said we overuse the term miracle. Its a mayonaise, plant food, music group. Acts 3:1-10 is about an amazing miracle. Peter and John went to the temple and saw the lame beggar who begged for alms, Peter gazed directly at this beggar and told him he didn't have gold/silver but would give what he did have and told the beggar to stand up and walk in the power of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. The beggar did get up and leaped/bounded into the temple praising God. There were 3 times for prayer and Peter/John still acted/thought of themselves as Jews. morning-9am midday-12pm afternoon-3pm busiest time cuz of evening sacrifices.
Temple complex is massive compared to the link in Phili new ft ball stadium mult by 3=size of temple. Outer part called court of gentiles which is bordered by covered porches where scribes debate/argue and money changers sit. Its as far the gentiles can go. Beautiful gate is where the court of gentils leads into court of women. strategic placing he'll get the most money. Beggars ankles were made strong and he leaped up. Phys therapist know this doesn't happen. Lame for 30/40yrs you don't just leap up. He would've had to go through lots of phys therapy.
Verse 8-guy gets to go into the temple. If you were lame you couldn't go in, only on the outside looking in. couldn't connect with ppl or God. Peter doesn't claim credit and the ppl understand the miracle came from Jesus Christ from Nazareth. Peter is claiming Jesus is the Messiah. verse 9-10-all the ppl saw and were filled with wonder/amazement. they knew him from before and truly understood this was a miracle.
The man just wanted to get by. food in his belly for the day cuz he knew he'd be back there. God knew he didn't just need to pass by but to get up and provide for himself and connect with God. God doesn't care about our wants but our NEEDS. Short-term fixes to long-term problems. we're looking for coin in cup instead of getting up and strengthing our legs.
acts 3:11-26
faith in Jesus's name has given this man perfect health. need change in life (radical diff) behave diff than the world. will we embrace it? how do we know a radical change happened? 12-13-its all about Jesus! God of Abraham, God of Isaic, God of Joshua, God our their fathers. God glorified his servant Jesus. Isaiah prophesized about a suffering servant that would be spat on, a crown of thorn placed on their head, whipped, nails driven into their hands and feet. Peter is declairing Jesus as the suffering servant. If you want a life changing encounter with God of universe it starts and ends with Jesus Christ, we have to deal with our sins and take responsibility for them.
our culture is made to deny sin. we're greedy, lie, discriminate then call ourselves good and think God of universe will give us a pass. ppl who have clean hands and pure hearts can be with God. simply acknowleging sin isn't enough. asking for forgiveness isn't enough. 19-21-repentence is far more than forgiveness or sorrow. its a 180 turn from sin. i'm done! turning from sin to God and obeying God. Knowing you'll fall but wallow in God's grace and turn to God again.
benefits of repentenance-1.sins are forgiven. by God only. we look to world but world is only good at ignoring, encouraging and condemning sin).2.our lives will be refreshed. 3. secures our future (brings Jesus).
I know I'm no diff than the beggar I'm good with just passing by but that's not right. I'm good at making excuses and asking for forgiveness but really bad at repentenance cuz I don't change and I need to. S has made some changes and it has definately improve S's life and mine cuz S helps out instead of being chained to the computer. I need to stop cursing and even though I will slip up I need to be diligent and continue to curb my language and even thoughts. I want to have kids some day and do not want them growing up around potty mouths or that their mom has the dirties one. I need to put God first and stop using the excuse we don't have a church, cuz we do have one and even before there was nothing stopping us from reading the Bible or finding a church site and listening to the recorded sermons. I need to do more than just pass by in my faith but to really embrace it and change my life so it fully represents being a Christian that others might want to be Christians too.
